Screwed cardholder
San Diego
Complaint_against: First Bankcard of Omaha
Complaint:
This company pisses me off and I want everybody to know it. First Bankcard
sent me notices that they were going to raise my rate AGAIN! What pisses me
off more than anything is how in the world my payment can up from $283 to
$401 in one month. After contacting the company, all I got from them was
you got a notice and that is the new rate and you need to pay it. This is
ridiculous! I feel sorry for anybody who works with this shister outfit.
This company makes every effort to raise acct balances and then turns around
and starts raising your rates. I am not worried because they will gone
shortly but I would suggest to everyone that you steer as far away from
First Bankcard of Omaha as you can. If they send you a credit card, throw
that thing away as fast you can, even better burn it. If you can't fight the
system then complain about and let millions of people out there know what
they did to you. They are nothing but a bunch of crooks.
STAY AWAY FROM FIRST BANKCARD OF OMAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Complaint: I had a First National Bank Visa for 10 years. This Christmas
both my wife used it for a gift and somehow after fincance charges at the
end of the month, it went over the limit. The next month, we just looked at
the minimum payment, paid it (still not realizing that it had gone over the
limit, and the minimum, didn't take it under the limit). The next month, our
interest rate went from 14% to 28% and for some unknown reason just went to
31%. In the 10 years I've had the card, we have never had a late payment,
never went over the limit, and we have an excellent credit record. This
place sucks. NEVER USE THEM. They refuse to lower it and constantly say that
if we would read the cardholder agreement, we'd see it's within their right
to do this. I have my own company and as a startup we put a lot of the costs
on our personal credit cards. As a result I have $25,000 on the card at a
31% interest rate. It's absolutely killing me, and they could care less. |

Complaint: I had a credit card with First BankCard of Omaha for 15 years. I
never missed a payment and never had a late payment as far back as I can
remember. A few months ago, without any warning, I got a notice in the mail
that they had summarily closed my account. It seems that the check I mailed
to them never reached them. Less than a week after the payment was due,
they closed the account. I immediately phoned them and made a payment over
the phone, but to no avail. I talked to three different representatives and
two were incredibly rude. They gave me some song and dance about how I had
charged items in one month that were almost as much as my payment and they
apparently didn't like that. When I asked them what happens if you go on
vacation and charge things like hotel, car rental, air fare etc., they had
no good response. When I complained about their unfair practices, the last
guy I talked to said, and I quote," We're a bank. We can do anything we
want." He !
then hung up on me. I would strongly suggest that anyone holding a
FirstBank card pay it off ASAP and find another card. Don't do business
with these people. They're vicious. |

| Complaint: I transfered a balance to an FBO card
at a 4.9% interest rate. Over a year later they called me and said I
had missed a payment, and they were raising my interest rate to 31%.
My records showed I had scheduled the payment online and I even got
confirmation of the schedule, but FBO didn't post the payment. After
an hour on the phone and getting transferred to a supervisor, they
finally agreed to return my original interest rate. Next statement,
the interest rate was at 9.9% instead of 4.9%. After three emails
now, they are again claiming I missed the earlier payment and they
want me to call and argue on the phone again, even though we had
already settled the matter once before. I'm fortunate enough to have
other options, but I know a lot of people aren't, and that's what
these criminals are relying on. Don't use them. You can do
everything right and still they will cheat you. |

Complaint: This is the copy of a letter I sent to First Bankcard. I
have had a Bankcard Premier Edition Mastercard since 1999. I bank
through and have an automatic bill payment set up. Because of the
day falling on a weekend in September, my payment was pushed to the
next business day which made my payment late by two days. Your
response to that was to raise my rate from 13.99% to OVER 30%! I
have consistently paid my bills, I have held your card for almost 10
years and by being a few days late, not 30 days, mind you, 2 days,
you charged me a late fee and more than doubled my percentage rate.
THIS IS RIDICULOUS. The late fee is there to penalize late payments
and I have no problem with the fee, although your steady increase of
the fee and the amount of the fee now is completely over-the-top.
However, to MORE than double my percentage rate is unacceptable. I
realize that the economy is not doing as well right now and that
this is an automatic thing that happens when someone is late.
However, it is stupid, short-sighted and lost you a customer, a lot
more money and I will tell everyone I know what a horrible company
you are. To raise the rate of a customer who has consistently paid
you on time for 10 years is an asinine move. You should think about
your automatic policy in the future and LOOK AT PEOPLE'S HISTORY OF
PAYMENTS and remember that people who DO have good credit will not
tolerate you raising their rate to an astronomical level. People who
have good credit have MANY options for their business and don't have
to deal with a company such as yours that does not value their
custom! ers. It is policies such as these, raising the rates of
people who already cannot pay AS WELL as raising the rates of people
who can and always have paid who will then take their business
elsewhere, which has lead to many companies in your industry GOING
BANKRUPT. If you continue to do business in this manner, I am sure
you too will follow the same route. Just to be fair, I did call and
ask for the rate to be lowered, which it was lowered back down to
13.99%. However, I have several credit cards, and this is the
highest rate that I currently have and they acted like they were
doing me a huge favor. The phone representative also threatened me
with the ominous, "If you're late again, we can raise your rate even
higher than 30%." I do not accept a company threatening me. I then
called to ask to speak with a manager who had no sympathy, made no
efforts or offers to save my business and basically accepted that he
had lost a customer. Again, this is a sure-fire way to lose business
and money. How about 5% for the life of a balance transfer? How
about an intro rate for 2 years of 2%? How about refunding some of
the exorbitant "Finance Charges" you charged me when you jacked my
rate up to 30%? Because I'll tell you something, I had over $5000
with your account that I have since moved to another account. And I
am closing my account wi! th you. So you will be getting 100% of
nothing. I am no math genius but 5% of 5000 is a lot better than
100% of nothing. Thank-you very much, |

Complaint: I opened an account with fnbo 2 years ago
with a balance transfer offer. I paid my payments on time (sometimes
even 2 payments per month). I always pay online and asked them
several times for the option of having my minimum payment taken out
of my chk account. They claim they sent me a form via snail mail. I
have a rural address and have trouble getting mail. I kept asking
them to fax the form or make it an option on their website. Over
Christmas I flaked and was a couple days late with a payment. My
rate went from 9.9% to 31%! I complained and was told they would
review! my account in a couple months. This is robbery, plain and
simple. They refused to help me so I transferred the balance to
another card. I will NEVER use fnbo for anything ever again and I
suggest others not use them either. |

Complaint: Security answers rigged to thwart access
into account to be paid online. So you have to find the time to call
them a redo the whole thing so you can get online to pay your
payment. If you don't, God forbid you might be late. And please
don't send it by mail as it will be conveniently left in a mailbox
until it is overdue. You can send it Certified but that gets costly,
but it might be worth it until they find a way around that. From 4.9
to 13.9 to the moon I suppose. Too many people in too many pockets
too bad. Good people are being destroyed by these above of law
entities. Good payers becoming bad payers or no pay! ers because of
these usury banks. Congress where are you? Are you listening? Do you
care? You might when there are no people able or around to pay. What

Complaint: Ah, The good ole credit card scammers!
First National Bank of Omaha raised my interest rates from 9.9% to
28%. I immediately went out, spent the last $900 that was on my
credit limit, and then I called them and threatened to NOT pay them
until they lowered my interest rates. After two calls and NO HELP
(they refused to lower the rate) I called again with a nicer tone. I
had a "Gina" offer me an interest rate at 6.9% with a 1% payback per
month on my balanced owed. I asked for this in writing and she
agreed. She even allowed me to "skip a monthly payment" because I
told her I couldn't afford the $300 payment because they refused to
change that amount. Don't let this bank BULLY YOU! Speak your mind
and YOU WILL GET RESULTS! I promise you! They will NOT allow you to
charge on your card and will close your account, but who cares? I
thought ahead and maxed out my card BEFORE I called in. You see,
whats good for the goose is good for the gander. You want to raise
my rates then I will max out my card because I knew they would close
my account. FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHTS! DON'T GIVE UP! This goes for ANY
credit card! Two others tried the same scam on me. I just told them
lower it, or don't get paid. I told them that it may be easy for
them to try and scam an old lady or someone that just doesn't care
and accepts their rates, BUT They met their match! DON'T BACK DOWN! |

Complaint: My experience echoes the others. Been with
them for 15 years, always paid on time, no mistakes, etc. Paid off
balance every month, only credit card I used. Our credit rating is
stellar. Last year, we suffered a job loss and used this card to
make ends meet for a few months. At the time the interest rate was
6%. Out of the blue, last April, I received a 'change in terms'
notice from them. Without reason given, my interest rate would
triple. I didn't opt out as I wanted to keep the account open as
it's my oldest account. In hindsight, I should have opted out! They
flat out REFUSE to lower my rate, insisting I have the base rate
they offer. My reward for being so loyal and paying them on time
consistently for 15 years was the middle finger! It is completely
unethical (yet completely legal!) to charge these rates. From what I
gather, tgey are able to charge as high as 32% interest legally.
It's obvious the politicians like having the cc companies on their
side. Stay away from this company at all costs. |

Complaint: Recently this card company sent out, I got
one, letters in the guise of advertising a 0% interest "opportunity"
for its card members. I almost threw it out promptly thinking it was
just junk mail from my card company. The thing is, it was not an
"opportunity" at all. It was an ANNOUNCEMENT of an AUTOMATIC
institution of a 0% deal starting the very next time I used that
card. So that meant that those who didn't read the letter in its
totality would be UNAWARE that this 0% deal was being instituted
automatically, without giving them a choice to accept or reject it,
and if they had a balanc! e prior to that point it would just sit
there and accrue interest while the company applied any new monthly
payments to the 0% credit purchases only. Deceptive practice to say
the least, if not outright fraud. |

Complaint: This is not so much a complaint as it is a
warning to credit card seekers who have good to excellent credit. I
applied for a 0% purchase card and was approved the next day. Ten
days later the card arrived in the mail. About a week after that I
got a letter requesting two years of tax returns, recent pay checks,
and utility bills. I had 20 days to forward those materials or risk
account closure. I called and asked the rep about the point of being
approved when I wasn't really approved. She gave me some song and
dance about company policy bla bla. I asked why those requirements
weren't listed on the card application on their web site? She
repeated the same bull. Anyway, they're not getting my tax returns
or paychecks. Too bad some transactions have to be deceptive. It
just bothers me that they effed around with my credit score in this
manner (i.e. increase then decrease in a span of 30 days). It's not
like a good credit score is easy to come by these days. |

Complaint: This bank is obviously out for a buck any
way they can make one. Customer service is non-existent. Don't take
advantage of their low introductory offers as they will eventually
find a way to hit you with late charges, increased interest rates,
etc. After a perfect credit history with them for two years, we were
one day late with a payment. They changed the due date window
without warning by over a week. We always scheduled our payment to
get there one week early. This was during the summer when we were on
vacation and had scheduled our payments electronically while we were
away. Any other bank or! credit card company would extend a courtesy
adjustment under the circumstances. A call to the bank resulted in a
curt "absolutely not" answer when asked for a one time allowance for
this situation. They charged us $39 and raised our interest rate
from 2.99 to 13.99. We immediately went to our bank to send an
electronic payment to pay off the loan, and guess what? They refused
to give our bank the routing number necessary to make this transfer.
Our bank manager was furious. He said they had never had that happen
before, and it was entirely uncalled for. We were sending them
money, not receiving it. I'm sure this policy is in place so that
anyone who tried to get a payment in at the last minute will end up
missing a due date and have to pay another late fee and possibly
another increase in interest. Fortunately, we had funds to pay off
the loan and plenty of time and the bank sent a cashiers check to
pay it off. Those who are not in that position are stuck in a
nightmare. No! w we are waiting to see what underhanded trick they
will pull next. I will call every day until the payment is posted.
And our bank is also keeping track of the payment progress. Stay
away from First National Bank of Omaha. |

Complaint: I've had a credit card with First National
of Omaha for about three years. My interest rate was 7.99%. I
receive my statements electronically and pay monthly through their
website. I don't really look at the electronic statements, as they
are identical to what I already see on the website. Well, turns out
that in August 2009 statement they printed a notification at the
bottom that my rate would go up to 19.99% in October 2009. I had an
option to opt-out by closing the account and paying it off at the
existing rate of 7.99% (also troublesome that I would have to do it
in writing, while my other ! companies made it available to opt-out
by phone). Since I did not check the statement, I missed the
notification. All of my other cards send me a notice in the mail
when such a change takes place and I have electronic statements with
all of them. Not First National. I missed the deadline and only
learned of it a couple of statements later when suddenly my
financial charge went up quite a bit. This is not fair. I carried a
$3,000 balance and would most likely close the account to avoid
paying the high rates. Now I am stuck. I called their customer
service who said they could not do anything since now I was
officially locked in at the new rate. I asked to speak to a
supervisor with whom I tried to reason that it was not fair, since I
was never late with payments, carried a balance and was a good
customer to them overall, and why would they just sit quietly and
wait to jack up the rate instead of sending me a courtesy reminder
by email or regular mail or even through ! a courtesy call. He only
listened and said there was nothing he could do. Needless to say, my
opinion about First National changed tremendously. I will try to pay
off my balance as soon as I can and will never use the card again so
not to give them any more business. I will definitely tell my
friends NOT to use them at any cost. That is why I am here too,
typing away, to let everyone know of my really bad experience. |

Complaint: Same thing... Never missed a payment,
after paying off a half of my balance they sent me a notice saying
that they are reducing my credit limit, and right after that they
suspend my account for 6 months. Does not make any sense, as I was
never late and actually just paid half of my balance off (in this
case other credit card companies I bank with increase my limit and
talk me into transferring balance from other credit cards)...anyway
I e-mailed them, I didn't try to be nice and actually used slurs in
my e-mail, told them that I will pay the balance off in 2 months so
they can go and fuck themselves, because I will call them and close
this worthless account after I pay it off (this is exactly what I
told them). Highly don't recommend to bank with this company.
